A sensor inside the cap measures the water level inside the bottle continuously. The difference in water level is used to calculate the amount of water consumed.
The hydration goal is calculated based on individual parameters like Height, Weight, Activity Level, Gender, Temperature, etc. The methodology is described in this article.

Yes, you can add hot water or ice in the bottle. Sipwise lite and pro have a single layer stainless steel body. Sipwise pro has a double layer build. This provides better thermal insulation and can maintain temperature for longer durations.
You can clean the bottle like a normal water bottle. The sensor system is fully sealed and safe. Although the USB C port is water resistant, it is not fully 'water proof'. Sipwise Lite and Classic are not dishwasher safe, Sipwise Pro (coming soon) is dishwasher safe.
Make sure the USB C Port is dry before plugging in for charging.
